Nairobi traders directed to present weighing tools for county inspection
The inspection drive began in Embakasi Central between August 18 and 22 and in Embakasi East from August 25 to September 2 at Soweto Social Hall. Kasarani traders were attended to from September 3 to September 22.
Traders across Nairobi have been instructed to take part in an ongoing inspection and stamping exercise for weighing and measuring equipment, which began in August and will continue until November 2025.
The county has set up designated centres in every sub-county to handle the programme, to ensure all commercial tools comply with legal standards.

The directive, announced on Friday, September 19, listed police stations, chiefs’ offices, social halls, shopping centres and county offices as the main inspection points. Locations covered in the notice include Westlands, Langata, Dagoretti, Kibra, Kasarani, Roysambu and Embakasi, among others.
“All traders within a radius of twenty (20) kilometres of the places mentioned are required under the law to submit their weighing and measuring instruments for inspection and stamping,” the county stated.
City Hall clarified that equipment with a capacity beyond 500 kilograms will not be transported but checked at the premises where they are used. In such cases, the owners must write to the County Director of Weights and Measures with the details of the equipment, its size, and location at least three days before the inspection.
"Traders in possession of such instruments may comply with this notice by notifying the inspector (County Director of Weights and Measures - Nairobi City County) in writing as to the type, capacity and location of the instruments at least three days before the date on which the equipment is to be produced," the notice added.

For Roysambu, the schedule places the exercise at Zimmerman Chief’s Office on September 23, Lumumba Drive on September 24, Marurui Chief’s Office on September 25, Rasters on September 30, and Ngumba Shopping Centre on October 2.
Langata residents will be served at Nairobi West NCC Offices on October 7, Soweto Social Hall on October 8, Kenya Business Verification Hall on October 9, Ngei Chief’s Office on October 14, and Karen Ward Office on October 15.
Kibra inspections are set for Kibera DO’s Office on October 16, Lindi Chief’s Office on October 17, Sarang’ombe Chief’s Office in Ngomongo on October 21, and Laini Saba Chief’s Office on October 22.
Starehe traders will be covered at the Kenya Meat Commission grounds on October 23, Mariguini Chief’s Office on October 24, Sanasana Chief’s Office on October 27, City Market Offices on October 28, and Ngara Chief’s Office on October 29.
In Westlands, inspectors will be available at Kangemi Market Office on October 30, Mountain View NCC Offices on October 31, Kawangware Chief’s Office from November 3 to 4, and Kangemi Chief’s Office on November 5.
Dagoretti North will have its checks at Kawangware Muslim Chief’s Office on November 6, Kabiro Ward Office on November 7, Kawangware Omollo on November 10, Uthiru Shopping Centre on November 11, and Ndumboini Chief’s Office on November 12.
Dagoretti South traders will undergo inspections at Riruta NCC Offices on November 13, Riruta Chief’s Office on November 14, Waithaka Chief’s Office on November 18, Mutuini Chief’s Office on November 19, and Dagoretti Market on November 20.
